Invisible

The world stopped once
When a child covered his eyes in play
All disappeared to his view
To his consciousness

And that which he saw not
Could not see him
So he looked up in surprise
When I tapped his invisible shoulder

But are we not all ridiculous versions of this child
Knowing that the unseen exists and continues to exist
Though it is or becomes a stranger to our consciousness
We choose to see only that which lies before us

And we fail to worship God
Preferring the here and now
The seen and seeable, the known and knowable
While all creation taps on our shoulder

So is not all search for truth
Nothing more than an attempt to open our eyes
And realize that we have always been known
By the invisible which lies always before us
